Green Crooked Cottage

I love toys for kids that encourage them to be a part of the outdoors. The Green Crooked Cottage is an adorable play house for kids. It is suitable for children ages 3 and up and can fit two to three munchkins at a time.

They will be spending hours in their Green Crooked Cottage. I also love the fact that it is made out of solid wood construction.

My parents have an outdoor play house for our children and they absolutely love it. When their cousins come over they play all sorts of imaginary games in their little house.

Express yourself....... on your walls

It's quite the thing now to have FUN quotes and sayings on your walls.
My friend has the one "Always Kiss me Goodnight" on her bedroom wall written in beautiful font.

I've also been wanting to put Scripture verses on my wall in unique fonts and design but I wasn't sure where to get them. Most places have certain verses or versions already printed out but I just found out about a wonderful place called Uppercase Living. My friend is selling it. And you can totally customize what you want.

They have a wide selection of sayings, quotes, and whimsical artsy pieces, or you can completely customize a saying or quote yourself and they even do lifesize photo prints. Does it get much funner than this?

Here's what my amazing friend Leatta has to say about this fun business:

"As a mom of 10 kids, I'm always looking for ways to make our home reflect the uniqueness of each child as well as the shared values of our family. Uppercase Living provides affordable, customizable options to help me make our home as special as those who live here. I became a independent demonstrator to help others find these great products too."

Possibly you are looking for a new income opportunity, Leatta says NOW is the time to sign up!!!
You get lots of product samples (how cool is that).

Have you heard of Uppercase Living?

Succotash of Sorts & Homemade Biscuits

Tweety & Sylvester Retro

Here lately I have been stocking up on lots of staples: rice, pasta, and canned veggies. A lady at my church goes to a local dent store and buys up lots of good deals on 'in-date' dented cans and then I purchase them from her. This is such a blessing to our family.

At the same time I find myself needing to be creative to use food from my pantry. This is how my Sufferin' Succotash was created. :)

You will need:

1 lb. mild pork sausage
2 cups of cooked brown rice
2 beef bouillon cubes
1 onion chopped
2 garlic cloves
1 T. olive oil
1 can corn
1 can fire roasted or diced tomatoes
1 T. dried green peppers or fresh diced green pepper

Directions:

Fry sausage until done in skillet. Meanwhile saute onion, minced garlic, and green peppers in olive oil. When veggies are done add beef bouillon and water needed to cook rice according to pkg. Cook rice in veggies and water.

When rice is finished add cooked scrambled sausage, 1 can of tomatoes un-drained, and 1 can of corn drained.

This would be good with cheese added as well if you have it on hand.

Yummy Homemade Biscuits

(This recipe comes from my 1973 Ideals Country Breads Cookbook)

I used this cookbook lots when I was a teenager, back in the days when I couldn't' run to a computer for a recipe. ;)

You will need:

2 cups flour
1 T. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 to 3/4 cup milk

Stir together dry ingredients. Cut in shortening. Blend in enough milk to make a soft dough. Turn onto floured surface.
Note: I only knead my biscuit dough for a few seconds, I think this makes the best biscuits, I simply pat it out to about 1/2 inch thick and cut out my biscuits. Bake at 450* for 10-12 minutes. Wonderful with fresh raw honey!

These are so handy to have on hand!!!

This is the time of year zucchini is coming out your ears.......

you've made

muffins,
pancakes,
brownies,
and cake

all with your zucchini, but how about some Banana Zucchini Bread, Hmmmmmm, your gonna love it.

Love this recipe because it makes 2 loaves, eat one now, freeze one for later. Trust me, you'll thank yourself!

Ingredients:

4 eggs
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 c. canola oil
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. caramel extract
3 small bananas, smashed
3 cups whole wheat flour

Meaningful Mondays #11

Primroses and Bluebells

Welcome to Meaningful Mondays #11.  It has been a very hot week, we have hit record temps all week long and I have to admit I am beat.

I have also been very busy writing pages on Squidoo, I just started on there this past week as a way to drive more traffic to my blog. If you are interested in signing up click the link below:

I'm writing lenses on Squidoo and would love you to join me

Here is my one of my newest articles on there or shall I say lens as they are referred to on there: 5 Ways to Simplify Your life

Today I am going to relax with my girls. We are in the Summer Reading Program at our local library so we are going to read some books today and just have a relaxing day together.

We also might rent Seven Brides for Seven Brothers on Amazon.

I love how you can rent most movies from Amazon, I just wish they had more of the classics on there. I was wanting to rent Oklahoma the other day but the only option is to buy it digitally.....and for now I just wanted to rent it.

Please share below what you are doing on this Meaningful Monday and be sure to link back here. I have a lovely button on the right with a code to make it easy to copy and paste on your blog post.

Take care and have a wonderful day!

5 Updos for This Summer

I love trying new hair-dos! Especially in the summer when I CANNOT stand my hair to be around my face. We drive an hour to church and I like to get creative with stylish up-dos that 'stay put' with the windows down.

I am including below a list of FIVE updos that I have tried myself and  links that I have personally used.

1. Sock Bun (I just discovered this one and I adore it, super easy and I get so many compliments, looks like hard work but it only takes a few seconds!)

2. French Braid ( I self taught myself to french braid when I was a young teen. While I don't wear french braids much anymore it's a great fall-back in a pinch. Just the other night before church I had time to hop in the shower but literally no time to fix my hair and nurse the baby so I did a quick french braid.)

3. Low Messy Chignon (I discovered this do last summer when I was looking for a stylish updo that was also quick and easy with a 40's flair. This tutorial made is super easy to follow!)

4. Bandanas (I know this seems rather simple but there are so many cute styles and scarves, in a really bad hair day this will be great and cute too!)

5. Audrey Do ( I had fun with this one as you can see in my pics I am wearing the Audrey do)

Please include your favorite up-dos in the comments below!

Meaningful Mondays #10

Above is our two kittens cuddling by the back door.

It's been a great summer so far and I'm so excited to get back to blogging again.  It was a pretty rough pregnancy with baby Jane and I was out of the blogging world for quite awhile. It's good to be back.

I'm excited to start the Meaningful Mondays back up again.  This is your chance to link up and share with us what new things are going on in your world. You can find the inlinkz below and our wonderful Meaningful Mondays button and code on the right. This makes it super easy to add our link to your post.  After you link up please be sure to add our button or a link back here!

For my Meaningful Monday I'm going to add a few new photos from our cottage.

Freshly shucked corn for supper.

I couldn't remember how long to boil my corn so I visited Tammy's Recipes to see how to do it. In the past I had used our microwave but I try not to use it anymore.

This kitty showed up and our Mama cat gladly took it in, she's bigger than Cinderella's kittens but she seems to fit in just fine.

One of our 'girls' making the nightly round by the house. We heard some strange loud noises the other night and looked over at our van and she was eating dead bugs off the bumper of the van, that had been plastered on there from driving. Guess it's a good way to get your vehicle "de-bugged!"

Right now I am reading this lovely book, 'Tiny Homes'. A lady at church loaned it to me and I am delving and loving each page. I think it would be so neat to build our own cabin!

Quick Dry

It's been a very warm week this week! I like it because I can put my clothes on Quick Dry! Which means they simply dry faster on the line and I can get more laundry done in 1 day. As opposed to the winter time when I have them on drying racks and it takes a good 24 hours.

Laundry is one of my favorite chores to do! It evokes a peacefulness I cannot explain....Not to mention its a GREAT time to think and pray.

What is your favorite chore? How hot is it at your place today?
